Tesla raised prices for Model S and Model X

Today, Tesla will remove from stock the most affordable modifications of Model S and Model X cars. The founder of the company, Elon Musk, wrote about this on Twitter. Cars have risen in price by an average of almost 15,000 dollars, which made them even less affordable for buyers. The reasons for which the company made such a decision, Musk chose not to specify.

Previously, the Model S with a 75 kWh battery could be bought for $ 66,750, and the Model X with the same “battery” for $ 72,950. In the first case, the battery provided a power reserve of 416 kilometers, in the second – 381 km. Now only models with a 100 kWh battery will be available to customers. For the Model S will have to pay 94,000 dollars, and for the Model X – 97,000 dollars.

Experts believe that Tesla has deliberately raised the prices of premium cars in order to make its budget electric sedan Model 3 more popular.

However, you can’t call it very affordable: Musk wanted to sell an electric car for $ 35,000 but now the cheapest modification costs $ 45,000. And the interior of this car leaves much to be desired – this applies to a large amount of plastic and build quality.

It is also possible that the company is preparing a new battery model with an improved architecture. For example, Tesla produces 75 kWh batteries for Model 3, but they are manufactured using a different technology using 2170 cells.
